Tecno Camon 30 Premier Review: Camera Comes First, Everything Else Next

If you are in the market for a camera-centric smartphone priced under Rs 40,000, look no further than the Tecno Camon 30 Premier. With an unprecedented offering of four 50 MP cameras, this device stands out in a crowded field of smartphones that typically prioritize one primary camera while relegating the others to lower-resolution sensors. Having used the Tecno Camon 30 Premier as my primary camera phone for the past three weeks, here is my comprehensive review.

Design: Premium Look and Feel

The Tecno Camon 30 Premier’s design is reminiscent of high-end smartphones like the Xiaomi 14 Ultra and the OnePlus 12. It brings together the best of both worlds with a premium feel in hand. The vegan leather back is soft to the touch, providing a comfortable grip, and pairs beautifully with the grey-colored metal frame. Among the recent phones with vegan leather backs, this one offers the most authentic leather-like experience.

The included case is one of the most premium-feeling cases I have encountered. When I handed this device to a friend, they couldn’t even tell it had a case on. The camera bump is substantial, and with the case on, it becomes even more pronounced. Overall, this phone has been designed to highlight its camera capabilities, and it does so brilliantly.

Display: Decent and Functional

The Tecno Camon 30 Premier features a large 6.77-inch OLED LTPO screen with a 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Unlike most Android phones in this price range, it boasts a flat panel with an integrated in-display fingerprint sensor. The phone also comes with a pre-installed screen protector, and the box includes complimentary tempered glass.

The display is bright and vivid, performing well during gaming and content consumption. However, under direct sunlight, the peak brightness might seem lacking compared to other smartphones in this price range. The flat-panel design is great for gaming, and the minimal, uniform bezels give it a premium look akin to high-end smartphones.

Camera: Versatile and High-Performance

The Tecno Camon 30 Premier is a true camera-centric smartphone, featuring four 50 MP sensors: a wide-angle, ultra-wide-angle, 3x periscope telephoto lens, and a 50 MP selfie camera. It is one of the few smartphones under Rs 40,000 with such a versatile camera setup. The high-resolution ultra-wide and telephoto lenses ensure that photos from all focal lengths are sharp and vivid.

This phone can shoot up to 4K 60fps videos on all four cameras and uses AI to create personal avatars directly from the camera app. With 512 GB of internal storage, it provides ample space to store all photos and videos locally, eliminating the need for cloud backup.

The 3x telephoto lens offers up to 60x digital zoom with a 5x macro mode. It captures good pictures up to 10x zoom, but beyond that, images suffer from softness, noise, and lack of detail. At 3x zoom, it takes excellent portraits of both human and non-human subjects.

During my testing, the Tecno Camon 30 Premier captured stunning daylight pictures, though photos could get a bit noisy in low light. It has a fast shutter speed and takes good selfies, although it smooths the skin by default, which can be turned off. The color consistency across various focal lengths is very reliable.

Conclusion: The Best Camera-Centric Phone Under Rs 40,000

In conclusion, the Tecno Camon 30 Premier is an excellent choice for those who prioritize camera performance in a smartphone. Its premium design, decent display, and versatile camera setup make it a standout option in the sub-Rs 40,000 category. If you’re looking for a device that excels in photography without compromising on other features, the Tecno Camon 30 Premier should be at the top of your list.
