At the one phase where the whole world is going towards AI. There Italy has taken the step to ban the ChatGPT last Friday (02.04.2023).
It is the first instance after the AI came into existence that any country has blocked an AI (Artificial intelligence) Tool.
Why Italy banned use of ChatGPT
As per the reports, Italy’s Data protection authority (IDPA) has accused to the maker of ChatGPT i.e., OpenAI that they are stealing the data of users of Italy. While on the other side Italian authority said that There is no age verification system in ChatGPT that prevent minors to access or expose the illicit material to the internet.
With this privacy concern of ChatGPT, Italy has become the first country to ban the ChatGPT in their country. While in China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran has already taken the step to remain inaccessible ChatGPT in their country as per their law’s.
Reply from the owner of ChatGPT
After hearing the news of ban of ChatGPT in Italy, ChatGPT founder Sam Altman posted a tweet and told that ” We of course defer to the Italian government and have ceased offering ChatGPT in Italy (though we think we are following all privacy laws). Italy is one of my favorite countries and I look forward to visiting again soon! “
On 20th March, privacy regulatory authority of Italy has cited and found a data breach that is showing conversation and payment details of dozens of Users of Italy aftre that Italy government has given OpenAI 20 days to provide the agency details with the material and possible remedies before a final decision can be made about the future of OpenAI upcoming Technologies in the country.
After that OpenAI has decided to disabled it’s services in Italy till further notice. Yesterday, there is a user from Italy has asked that whether the ChatGPT would ban in Italy. ChatGPT replied ” There should be no concerns, i am a AI language model. That can be accessed by anyone from anywhere in the world, as long as internet will exist in the world.
